🎄 Advent Calendar 2026 – Day 9: The North Wind’s Song

✨ It was the ninth evening of December, and thousands of Christmas lights were shining in the village beneath the mountains. People had decorated their windows, balconies, and the living evergreen trees in their yards. But on this night, the North Wind was in another wild and untamed mood. He whistled through chimneys, howled in the treetops, and blew hard against everything in his path. Even Ginger the squirrel preferred to stay tucked away safely inside her little home up in the tall spruce tree.

💨 “Whoosh, whoosh!” echoed through the entire village. The North Wind saw blowing as a grand game, but he was causing a lot of trouble for the people. With his powerful breath, he kept blowing out the Christmas lights on the trees, knocking over decorative wreaths on doors, and tearing down garlands. As soon as a pretty light twinkled somewhere, the wind would fly over and blow it out right away.

Kate, a little girl, was sitting in her bedroom, looking out the window at the snowy streets. When she saw her favorite colorful bulbs on the tree outside go dark, she decided she wouldn’t just sit there. She put on her warm jacket, scarf, mittens, her favorite fur boots, and stepped out into the snowy yard.

❄️ At that exact moment, an icy gust of wind swept past her. “Why are you doing that, North Wind?” Kate called out into the dark, holding tightly to the porch railing. “We humans love Christmas lights. They bring us joy, and you are destroying them and blowing them all out. Try using your strength for something useful instead!”

The wind fell silent for a moment, surprised that someone was talking to him. He sat down on a hill overlooking the village and began to think about how to answer Kate. After a short while, he rushed back down the hill toward the village and swirled gently through the pine needles: “I only do what I know best – I blow. I am bored, and I don’t know how else to have fun.”

✨ Kate smiled and pointed to the buried path and the road in front of their house, where no cars or neighbors could pass because of the deep snowdrifts. “Look at all that deep snow on the paths! Since you love to blow so much, why don’t you blow the snow off the sidewalks and roads? That way, children can run safely to school in the morning, and parents can go to work.”

The North Wind absolutely loved this idea. However, he was a bit afraid of whether he could actually do it. He stopped completely for a moment and started to worry: “What if I mess it up? What if I can’t do it? What if I blow the snow somewhere it shouldn’t go and make things even worse?” He was scared, but he told himself he would give it a try. After all, he had nothing to lose. And if he messed it up? He would keep trying night after night – he had the whole winter ahead of him, after all.

🚀 So he lifted himself up and began to blow. It was a brand-new, exciting game for him! He drew a huge amount of icy air into his chest and aimed right at the pathway in front of little Kate’s house.

“Whooooosh! Whooooosh!” he blew powerfully, but this time, right along the ground. In that very second, all the deep snow lifted into the air and flew to the edge of the garden. The path was completely clear! The wind whistled with excitement, raced to the main road, and began blowing snow off the entire street. He did it with so much joy that his blowing sounded like a cheerful Christmas song.

❤️ When he was finished, the entire village had the cleanest roads and sidewalks in the country. The Christmas lights in the windows stayed safely lit, beautifully reflecting off the cleared streets. The wind gently drifted over to Kate, tickled her cheek, and whispered softly: “Thank you, Kate. From now on, I will be the best winter sweeper in the world.”

Kate was thrilled because tomorrow she wanted to build an igloo out of the big pile of blown snow in the garden. Standing by the house door, she called out one last time, “Thank you, little wind!” She quickly waved to the wind and ran back into the warmth with a cozy heart.
