🎄 Advent Calendar 2026 – Day 13: The Wooden Birdfeeder

✨ It was another day before Christmas, and the ground outside was covered in fresh snow. A little boy named Max stood by the window, watching the little birds flying back and forth, searching for food. Some of them perched tiredly on the frozen tree branches in the yard. It wasn’t easy to find anything to eat because everything was buried under deep snow. Max felt very sorry for them.

🔨 “Dad?” Max said, turning to his father, who was reading a book in his armchair. “The birds outside are freezing and hungry. Can’t we feed them somehow?” His dad smiled warmly, put his book down, and stood up. “You’re absolutely right, Max. Let’s go to the workshop,” Dad commanded for this special mission. “We will build the best Christmas birdfeeder for them.” They quickly put on their coats and boots and happily headed out to the workshop.

The workshop smelled wonderfully of fresh wood and sawdust. Dad pulled out some sturdy wooden boards, a saw, and a hammer. Max helped eagerly – he held the boards while his dad sawed them, handed his dad the nails, and carefully watched as a tiny house with a roof took shape under their hands to keep the snow out. Finally, Max smoothed the birdfeeder beautifully with some sandpaper.

🌾 Once the birdfeeder was finished, Max ran to his mom so she could hand them a bag full of sunflower seeds, poppy seeds, and fragrant nuts from the kitchen. Max carefully poured everything onto the bottom of the little wooden house. He and his dad went out into the garden, and together they tied the birdfeeder securely to the biggest tree in the middle of the yard, which could be perfectly seen from Max’s window.

As soon as they returned inside the warm house, Max stood by the window again, waiting anxiously. The yard was quiet, and the birdfeeder remained empty. He began to worry if the birds would even find it.

🐦 At that exact moment, the first chickadee flew onto the highest branch of the spruce tree, followed by a second, and a third. They were hungry and exhausted from the freezing wind. Their sharp little eyes had already spotted something brand new – a beautiful wooden house that smelled of fresh wood and nuts! The first chickadee, acting as a scout, chirped joyfully and instantly swooped straight into the birdfeeder.

She began to happily munch on the sunflower seeds. Her cheerful chirping immediately attracted the other chickadees and more forest birds. In just a moment, the birdfeeder was filled with colorful chickadees and sparrows, happily flapping their wings and enjoying this Christmas feast.

❤️ Out of nowhere, Ginger the squirrel appeared by the tree, curious to see what kind of feast was going on. The nuts smelled incredibly good to her. Max jumped for joy by the window and grabbed his dad’s hand. “Look, Dad! It works! They came!” His dad hugged him tightly, and together they watched the birds in the birdfeeder and the squirrel in the snow. Max felt immense joy and warmth in his heart. He knew that thanks to their little wooden house, their forest friends would have the most beautiful and safest Christmas. He made a promise with his dad and mom to share treats with the animals every single day.
