✨ In a cozy little house at the edge of the village, a little girl named Emma sat at her writing desk right under the window. It was the second evening of December, and she was carefully writing her secret Christmas wish on a neat piece of white paper. Since summer, she had been dreaming of a singing doll named Suzan.
📝 With a smile on her face, she left the letter on the windowsill for the North Wind to carry away to Santa’s little helpers.
💨 But the North Wind was in a very mischievous mood that evening. Instead of gently picking up the letter, he blew a sudden, sharp gust, snatched the paper, and whipped it high into the dark, swirling sky!
“Oh no! My letter!” Emma cried out, but it was too late. The letter with her secret wish was flying high above the rooftops.
🏠 The paper danced through the freezing air, spinning around until it finally landed on the neighbor’s roof. Emma hoped that another gust of wind might blow the letter off the roof so it would fall to the ground.
But that didn’t happen. The letter was blown right behind the chimney, tucked away in the shelter out of the wind, and even the playful wind couldn’t budge it from there. It held fast, as if stuck with the strongest glue.
👪 Mom and Dad rushed out into the street, and even the neighbor came to help, but there was no saving the letter. No one knew how to reach it behind the chimney where the naughty wind had swept it. Emma burst into tears. Her big secret wish would never reach Santa. She felt so sad, especially since she had been so close to getting her dream doll.
🐿️ A little squirrel named Ginger lived in a nearby tree and watched everything unfolding through the spruce branches. Nobody noticed her; everyone was only thinking about Emma’s lost letter.
When things outside finally quieted down, Mom convinced Emma that the letter would surely fall to the ground by morning, they would find it, and send it to Santa tomorrow. After all, there was still plenty of time for the letter to arrive safely at the North Pole before Christmas. Emma calmed down and went to her bedroom.
🌙 A peaceful evening settled outside, just like any other ordinary day. Families were having dinner together at their kitchen tables, others were watching television, playing board games, or reading bedtime stories.
That was the time when Ginger the squirrel could run around freely on the tree branches, and quite often on the house roofs too, without any rush or stress. Ginger was very curious about why there had been such a fuss earlier when it was an evening just like any other. She leaped from branch to branch and – hop! – she was on the neighbor’s roof.
💌 And what did she see there? A piece of white paper that she had never seen there before. It was Emma’s lost letter. Ginger picked up the letter, her little claws gently scratching against the roof, and – hop! – she bounded back into the safety of the tree canopy.
Ginger read the writing on the letter: “A secret wish from Emma to Santa.”
“Oh dear, this is a lost wish for Santa!” She knew right away that she had to bring the letter back to Emma so it could reach Santa in time. And so, she quickly scurried over to Emma’s windowsill. She wasn’t a stranger there; Emma’s mom knew about Ginger and always left a few nuts on Emma’s windowsill during winter.
🥜 A tasty reward was waiting for Ginger today as well. Ginger placed the letter on the windowsill, took the nuts, and ran back to the safety of her spruce tree.
Emma wasn’t sleeping, though; she had sadness in her heart. When Ginger hopped onto the windowsill, Emma XML rushed to the window and saw everything! After Ginger left, the wind gently picked up the letter from the windowsill and carried it away to Santa – having learned its lesson from its earlier mischief.
💤 And so, Emma could finally go to sleep peacefully and dream about her singing doll, Suzan.
