✨ High up on a soft white cloud lived a tiny snowflake named Crystal. She was fragile, sparkly, and beautiful, holding onto the edge of the cloud with all her might. It was already December – the third day of Advent – and the time had come for her and her sisters to leap down to earth.
💨 “Hurry up, girls! We need to cover the world in a white blanket!” cheered the North Wind, encouraging the snowflakes.
But Crystal was trembling with fear. She had heard stories about what happened down on earth. “What if I land on the unfrozen ground and melt in an instant? I will turn into a single drop of water and disappear forever,” she whispered fearfully.
❄️ The other snowflakes were scared too, wondering how they could find out if the ground below was already frozen and ready for their arrival. The North Wind noticed that Crystal and her sisters were hesitating. He gently blew into the snowflakes with his cold breath. Crystal and her sisters lost their balance and began to fall down toward the earth.
Crystal soared fast through the chilly evening sky. Millions of other snowflakes danced around her, but she kept her eyes squeezed shut, waiting for the worst. Her fear didn’t let her see the beauty all around her.
🏠 As she drew closer to the ground, the wind gently swayed and slowed her down. Crystal peeked open one eye, slowly, just a tiny bit, and saw the magnificent beauty around her. Millions of snowflakes were drifting by, gently landing on the ground and creating a soft white blanket.
Suddenly, she spotted a small village beneath her. She loved it instantly – it had just a few houses, a tiny church, and in one of the gardens, a little boy named Oliver stood with his dad. They were hanging Christmas lights together on a big evergreen tree in front of their house. Oliver was wearing a warm, woolen blue hat.
✨ To Crystal, the twinkling lights looked like a magical runway guiding her where to land, making her feel much more relaxed and safe. She gently closed her eyes, just in case… And at that exact moment, Crystal landed. Not on the warm path she had feared, but gently like a feather, right on the pom-pom of Oliver’s hat!
Crystal waited fearfully to melt, but the wool of the hat was pleasantly soft and cool. She looked around.
In that very second, Oliver jumped for joy, pointed to the sky, and shouted: “Dad, look! The first snowflake landed on my hat! Winter is finally beginning!”
❤️ His dad smiled, hugged Oliver, and suddenly, Christmas lights began to turn on in the windows of all the surrounding houses. People ran out into their yards, smiling as they watched millions of Crystal’s sisters join her from the sky.
They remembered the times when they were children, sledding, throwing snowballs, and making snow angels in the fresh snow. Someone shouted: “Winter is the most beautiful time of the year!”
Crystal didn’t melt. Instead, she sat on top of the world (on Oliver’s hat) and watched how the arrival of her and her sister snowflakes transformed the entire gray village into a white, magical winter wonderland. She realized that even though she was tiny, she brought immense joy to the people.
